What is counselling.
Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies.
They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing as defined by the BACP.
I work within the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Code of Ethics and Practice for Counselling. These can be accessed on http://www.bacp.co.uk/
Counselling offers a unique opportunity to feel heard, understood, accepted and valued for who you are.
How I work
As an Integrative Counsellor I have the understanding and knowledge of different modalities, I can use a wide range of interventions and techniques to support my clients. However, my style of working is heavily underpinned by the person-centred and solution focused approach. I focus on developing a relationship with my clients and creating a safe, non-judgemental space for clients to identify, discuss, explore and reflect on their issues, problems and desired goals. I identify that the client is an expert in their own needs and through listening, reflective conversation, questioning and collaborative planning my role is to assist the client through a journey of acceptance and change.
As a Social Worker, I am also passionate about different attachment styles and overcoming childhood trauma. As adults, despite early life and childhood experiences, i believe individuals can work towards building secure attachments in their adult relationships and healing from childhood trauma.
Weekly sessions are most effective. I offer face to face and online (Skype) sessions to meet your needs and availability offering flexibility, choice, and convenience to fit your busy schedule.
How you can benefit
As your counsellor, I bring compassion, safety, integrity, sensitivity and warmth.
Cultivating positive relationships is important to me and is the foundation of all the work I do with my clients.
I will completely focus on you and what you share in the counselling room, I will put aside my own thoughts and judgements and be entirely present with you in the moment. When you work with me, you have my undivided attention and unconditional support throughout our counselling relationship.

Coaching and personal consultancy
Featured in British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, BACP. 2016, Personal Consultancy has been promoted as a new model providing a unique service catering to the needs of the client. This model has been proven to work well within organisations, delivering a bespoke service which enhances skills for group work as well as independent working.
It combines Integrative Counselling and Coaching. It allows options and flexibility to work on emotions and/or goal-oriented issues. The model allows the client to address concerns relating to existing and/or developing new patterns within sessions. therefore allowing the Consultant/coach to choose the appropriate interventions from both counselling and coaching models.
Coaching compliments counselling in that coaching is seen as a proactive tool for psychological support. The integrative approach allows me to support my clients to address their psychological problems as well as social and developmental issues simultaneously.
